The secret of the Emahot (Matriarchs) Rachel and Leah!

14 And Reuben went in the days of wheat harvest, and found mandrakes in the field, and brought them unto his mother Leah. Then Rachel said to Leah: ‘Give me, I pray thee, of thy son’s mandrakes.’

15 And she said unto her: ‘Is it a small matter that thou hast taken away my husband? and wouldest thou take away my son’s mandrakes also?’ And Rachel said: ‘Therefore he shall lie with thee to-night for thy son’s mandrakes.’

16 And Jacob came from the field in the evening, and Leah went out to meet him, and said: ‘Thou must come in unto me; for I have surely hired thee with my son’s mandrakes.’ And he lay with her that night.

We also went out into the fields at the fertile time of the wheat harvest (between Pesach and Shavuot),

the time when the world is pregnant, and just waiting to deliver the fruits of it’s womb,

Mezuzot

August 15, 2008

In building our own Home, we gave some thought to how best to perform this Mitzvah.
Here are several ideas I wanted to share with you:
- - The Mezuzah must be unquestionably Kosher.
- - The Mezuzah must be written by a Jewish Scribe,
with Yirat Shamayim.
- - The Mezuzah should be durable.
- - The Mezuzah should be Mehudar (elegant).

Mezuzah, written on parchment by a learned scribe.

- After settling what must be, and what should be, there are a few extra things that I would like:

If my house is not yet located in Eretz Yisrael- as a first step, at least my Mezuzot should be from there!

I am spending a sum that is not small on this Mitzvah- I want the money to go to a Talmid Hacham who will use it to help him learn Torah, while he and his family are performing the additional Mitzvah of living in Eretz Yisrael.

Here is a wonderful source for Mezuzot.

Rappelling in Israel

August 14, 2008

The Land of Israel is here for us to know. We hike across it (or bike, or jeep), climb up its cliffs, hills and mountains, but there is another dimension that we may have been missing until now: harness up, snap on— and flyyyyyyyyyy down: cliffs, crater walls, caves, and more!

Want to learn to rappell (snapling)? Combine vacation/ tour/ adventure with a rappelling class! See the sites, and flyyyyyyyyy down into them!
